Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Olympus iZoom 75 Ultra Compact APS CameraCustomer Review: THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A REALLY GREAT LITTLE CAMERA Summary: 3 Stars
When I first bought my Olympus iZoom 75 I thought it was a great little camera. It's light, sleek, weather resistant, aesthetically appealing, plastic but apparently well made, has quick flash recycling, and has a faster than average lens for this camera type (f4.7). Unfortunately I soon became disenchanted for the following reasons: 1) Slow opening and setting-up time 2) Quasi-manual open and close 3) Slow zoom action 4) Non-ergonomic function buttons (except "shoot" and zoom buttons) 5) Worst of all; that trademark "strobing" flash, which makes true candid shots almost impossible, draws unwelcome attention and slows down functioning. I ended up giving this camera to a friend.(Who likes it) Considering the many fine features of this camera, and Olympus' impressive track record over the years, it's especially disappointing that they didn't think this one through a bit more carefully. This could have been a really great little camera.
Description of Olympus iZoom 75 Ultra Compact APS CameraThe Olympus I Zoom 75's sleek, lightweight form, zoom lens, and splashproof construction make it an ideal camera for travelers who want the advantages of the Advanced Photo System in a quality package. The compact 75 is protected in a splashproof metallic-looking cover, and sports a slimmer version of the Olympus signature sliding-clamshell case, allowing this model to fit easily in to a pocket. The only disadvantage to this camera's compactness is that the self-timer and flash buttons are a little hard to press since they're so small. The Olympus I Zoom 75's multi-autofocus system helps produce the best photos possible--we found the camera did a good job of focusing even when our subject wasn't dead center. The flash gave us a choice of auto, red-eye reduction, fill-flash, night scene, and off modes. The night-scene mode allows you to sync the flash with a slow shutter speed so that you can take portraits with a night scene in the background. The zoom lens--a bonus on such a compact camera--has a 28 to 75mm equivalent range, good for everything from wide-angle landscapes, to portraits and medium close-ups. The Olympus I Zoom 75 is extremely easy to use, especially since it uses the Advanced Photo System (APS) format. APS film is a snap to load; no messing with film leaders, or alignment of cartridges, as the film just drops in and loads automatically. The APS format lets you take regular, wide-screen, and panoramic photos on the same roll, and your processed prints will include an index print, with thumbnails of every shot, for easy reprinting. Pros: - Ultra compact form
- Zoom lens
- APS format
- Wide range of flash modes
Cons: - Certain buttons are too small
THE OLYMPUS I ZOOM 75. The Next Generation In Advanced Photo System Design As the first model in this new camera series, the i Zoom 75 is a culmination of advanced technologies in performance and design and represents a new dynamic in cameras. Combining film handling ease with quality optics and sophisticated, ultra-compact, all weather design, the i Zoom 75 is truly advanced. High-performance 28-75 mm Zoom Lens A 28-75 mm 2.7 zoom lens (equivalent to the 35-94 mm coverage of a 35 mm camera)with two new aspherical lens elements not only ensure high resolution, but also contribute to the reduced size and weight of the lens. The new slim-line lens barrier and ruby-gold finish highlight the elegant contours that create a stylish, futuristic look. With a high priority placed on design and ergonomics, it is only natural that the I zoom 75 measures 4.2 (W) x 2.1 (H) x 1.3 (D) inches and weighs only 5.8 ounces (without battery). The flash system has several sensors that collect information about the required illumination. It not only triggers the flash automatically in dim light or backlighting, but also adjusts the intensity for situations such as macro shooting setting that often leads to overexposure. There are also six versatile flash modes that make it easy for anyone to take great flash photographs. - Auto, Red-Eye Reduction, Flash Off, Fill-in, Night Scene, Red-Eye Reducing Night Scene Three frame formats C (Classic) for standard print, H (HDTV) for a print with the same ration as a wide-screen televisions or P(Panorama) for panorama prints. A magnetic head automatically records shooting data that includes the date/time, frame format, subject brightness and other information in the film's magnetic tracks.
