I actually purchased this product to record ambient noise in an apartment for legal reasons. It didn't perform, but then it really probably wasn't designed for that purpose. It generates and records a lot of it's own white noise, therefore don't expect recordings to be clear and perfect. However the product is not horrible - if used to record thoughts, reminders, etc., it is probably great. I don't think it would be very good to record lectures in a big hall, though. I really like this little recorder. It functions very well and is small enough to place in your pocket or hide in your hat. It has a really good battery life and never seems to run out of space to record. Customer Review: Good for a Year Performance

This product was excellent for a good 12 months and then i had a transfer problem, desktop software issues, and my cord went bad. I am a Radio Podcaster now researching for advanced equipment. I guess, it depends on what you need this recorder for, always have some "back up" if this is apart of your long term job. A good stepping stone for beginners. When I first bought Olympus voice recorder I used it for 45 days approximately and then I kept it aside. The quality of the sound was not that great and it was producing echoes. It is not crystal clear like what you get using an MP3 player. So I will recommend a good quality mp3 player to this Voice Recorder. Olympus has to make some basic changes in it's Voice Recorder.
