Customer Review: Great Camera For The Outdoors/Active Person

I've had this camera about a year now, and use it about once a week. I tend to go up to the Rocky mountains either for mountain biking, hiking, or snowshoeing. I bought this camera because I wanted something that could handle the temperature ranges, could survive a drop, and was compact enough to easily stick in a pocket while still taking great pictures. The water proof issue wasn't important at all to me. The different modes for taking photos was important - especially the snow/beach mode.
Overall, I like this camera a lot. The picture quality is fantastic, and it is simple to use. Compared to my old camera it is easier to access modes like Macro or self timer which is important to me. The various modes are definetly a plus, especially the snow/beach mode when I'm up in the mountains snowshoeing.
I was a bit surprised by the wide angle lens, and often found myself accidently getting a finger in the shot at first, but soon learned not to do so and I now appreciate some of the great shots I can get now with a much wider lense. The two zoom modes are sufficent.
The larger screen is great at giving a better view which helps setting up shots, especially of wild life.
I have accidently dropped this camera a few times and set it in the snow and it has not flinched. Although I don't purposely toss this camera around it's nice to know it won't 'die' if it does get dropped or subjected to subfreezing temps.
The battery life is impressive too.
The various modes for taking photos and things like shadow adjust are great, and for those who like to tweak the exposure it is possible to manually do this with this camera. The iAuto is a great mode for those who just want a straight forward point and shoot camera.
In the winter I tend to wear gauntlet style gloves and I am still able to operate this camera's buttons. The tap control is handy, but I've noticed I can accidently trigger a button via the tap mode by putting the camera into a pocket and accidently bumping a side of the camera.
The power save mode is nice, the screen shuts off after a few seconds, but I wish it had a longer delay. Sometimes it goes off too soon when you're trying to shoot. A minor issue. I'd also like to be able to save my settings for the zoom, shadow adjust etc. so if I turn the camera off the next time I don't have to reset it.
Overall, this is a great camera that takes great photos. If you spend a lot of time hiking or other outdoor activities and want a rugged light weight camera that can handle some abuse then this is your camera.
