I bought this grip for an E-1 I bought a few months back as a used body, Since I like doing a lot of portraits with the E-1, I bought this grip to make shooting portraits easier. For that purpose this is a very useful accessory, however, the grip is pretty heavy and adds a lot of weight and bulk to the otherwise compact body of the E-1. Also, the grip uses a proprietary BLL-1 battery which, although providing great battery life, is a big mistake on part of Olympus. I have about 6 BLM-1 batteries and it would have been nice to use these batteries in the grip (like the E-3 grip). Now I have to carry this battery along with my other batteries. Also, these batteries are increasingly scarce and due to a short shelf life are becoming more and more obsolete. New batteries for sale aren't necessarily new as they might have been sitting on the shelf for a long time.
In short, although this grip is a very useful accessory, don't buy it for battery life as you won't be able to use BLM-1 batteries in it. Also, if (like me) you use the E-1 with the 12-60mm lens, adding this grip will significantly increase the weight of your kit. On the bright side, the grip is very tough, very well constructed and is completely weather-sealed like the rest of the E-1.
