The Opteka table top flex tripod works well with small digicams. I've used it to snap group photos so everyone can be in the same shot -- and only one picture needs to be taken (instead of the merry-go-round that usually happens when one person is out of the photo).
The tripod's legs are made of metal and have rubber nubs on the ends for traction. With the flex legs, you can adjust the height from which your camera shoots, but it's easier to just stick another book or two underneath the tripod. The screw (male) is standard and fit my Panasonic Lumix digicam and my Canon Powershot S400.
I do NOT recommend you try this with an SLR camera, as its weight will topple the tripod. If you decide to try this at home, be very careful when balancing your SLR, as you risk giving your pricey camera a big face-first THUNK on the table. The flex legs are fine for holding up a lightweight digicam, but they buckle under the mass of a typical SLR. (I own a Nikon D50 w/ 18-70mm lens, which is on the smaller scale of dSLRs, and it makes my tripod look like David Eckstein holding Mark McGwire on his shoulders -- trust me, this is a good analogy if you know baseball, specifically the St. Louis Cardinals.)
For the money you pay, this is a good value. Stick this tripod in your pocket (or purse) and you'll be the lifesaver of the party when it's time for the big group photo.
4 stars because the product does what it's supposed to do and I paid a good price. To get a 5th star, the legs would have to be strong enough to hold my D50.
